Heather Parker, MA, LMHC, NCC

Heather Parker, MA, LMHC, NCC is a licensed contractor at Wilson Clinical Services.  She has been a licensed mental health counselor since 1995 and a national certified counselor since 1996.

Deaf since birth and a native ASL user, she graduated magna cum laude in Home and Family Sciences in 1991.  Heather received her Master’s from a CACREP accredited Mental Health Counseling Program at Gallaudet University in 1994.

As a natural counselor and teacher, Heather has been deep listening, guiding, mentoring, advocating, and empowering Deaf, Deaf-Blind, CODAs, hard-of-hearing, and signing hearing individuals from diverse backgrounds, from ages 2 to 97.  She has been providing volunteer and professional individual, couple, family, and group counseling.

Heather teaches individuals various topics, including, but not limited to, cognitive and behavioral conditioning techniques and natural health remedies in dealing with stress, anxiety, and depression.  She has done this for over 30 years, beginning as an assigned peer counselor working with certain at-risk Deaf individuals with emotional / behavioral issues at her residential school in 1984.

Heather recognizes and values the personality of each individual as unique.  Depending on the needs of the individual, her holistic counseling approaches range from client-centered sessions to trauma therapy work of the mind, body, and spirit.  Examples of issues include abandonment and autism, as well as more difficult matters of death and dying.  She provides awareness, communication and conflict resolution techniques dealing with domestic and sexual violence as well as crisis and suicide intervention.  Most of all, she endeavors to promote within individuals a healthy sense of purpose in life, and ultimately to encourage them to reach their full potential as an empowered self-accepting individual.

Counseling aside, Heather’s interests are varied.  As a mother, she delights in watching her daughter, Zabrina, experience her transformational life journey beyond her high school years.  Heather enjoys reading, writing, and sharing with others what she has learned.  She is a lifelong fan of the Star Trek and Star Wars series.

Heather also immensely enjoys looking at various ultra-modern and extreme artworks, designs, structures, and architecture around the world.  These designs include ‘visionary’ futuristic cityscapes, concept cars, and space vehicles.  Whenever she has the chance, she can be found stargazing under the dark skies, looking for Saturn.  And, most of all, she is forever an eternalist – an amateur astronomer of a different sort.  Heather delights in continually being enlightened by the infinity of eternity from the infinitesimal to the infinite, and from the eternal past to eternal future regarding us and our tiny place among the vastness of the universe.
